It's the latest in a series of accidents in Houston that accident lawyers have come across over the past few months. Several students sustained injuries most of them minor, when the school bus they were traveling in was involved in a multi vehicle accident. The accident occurred on 288, south of downtown Houston on Wednesday morning.
According to the Houston Chronicle, there were a total of four vehicles involved in the collision. The school bus had a total of 40 students on board, mostly middle school children, on their way to the KIPP Liberation College Prep and KIPP Spirit College Prep. There is no detailed information about the accident yet, but according to the Chronicle, there was another minivan involved in the accident. The bus apparently struck the minivan from the rear.
Of the 40 schoolchildren on board, 10 complained of minor injuries and pain. These students were then taken to nearby hospitals. The other 30 students were taken to school in another bus.
As Houston accident lawyers and parents ourselves, we are extremely grateful that none of the students here suffered serious injuries. However, it has been alarming to note a number of bus accidents, especially those involving school buses, in Houston over the past few months.
Earlier this month, a bus belonging to the Klein Independent School District crashed into a vehicle in Harris County. Two students were injured in that crash.
In February, a school bus accident in Pasadena injured some students. The bus in that incident collided with a pickup truck.
Also in February, another school bus was involved in an accident in Harris County. Several students were injured in the accident which was blamed on a motorist.
Not all of these accidents were traced to driver inattention or other factors. However, there parents in Houston deserve to know that their children are safe riding to school in a school bus. A consistent stream of news reports informing us about the latest school bus accident, doesn't give comfort.
