Toyota Recalls

Since September 2009, Toyota has issued recalls for approximately 8.5 million defective Toyota vehicles, mostly related to unintended acceleration issues

The recalls were set off by an accident that occurred in August 2009 in California and left four people dead. That accident was not the first one involving a Toyota revving up to excessive speeds and going out of control, but it was the most serious one and captured international attention.  Since that crash, Toyota has announced multiple recalls

The first one was announced on November 2, 2009. it included 3.8 million vehicles including the Lexus. Toyota blamed a floor mat entrapment issue for this recall.

Just a few days later on 26 November, Toyota expanded the earlier recall to include 4.2 million vehicles for brake override issues.

On January 21, 2010, Toyota announced that it would recall 2.3 million vehicles due to faulty accelerator pedals. Some of these vehicles were already included in the floor mat recall.

On January 27, 2010, the floor mat recall was expanded to include 1.1 million more vehicles.

On February 8, 2010, Toyota announced a recall of 436,000 Toyota Prius vehicles worldwide because of brake issues. That recall came after more than 200 reports of Toyota Prius cars accelerating suddenly.

On the same day, 7,300 2010 Camry vehicles were recalled over brake tube problems.

Apart from the recalls which were linked to the unintended acceleration problem, Toyota also recalled 8,000 2010 Tacoma pickup trucks for defective front drive shafts.

Overall, the following vehicles have been included in the numerous Toyota recalls:

  • 2005-2010 Avalon
  • 2007-2010 Camry
  • 2009-2010 Corolla
  • 2008-2010 Highlander
  • 2009-2010 Matrix
  • 2004-2009 Prius
  • 2005-2010 Tacoma
  • 2007-2010 Tundra
  • 2009-2010 VENZA
  • 2009-2010 RAV4
  • 2009 Camry Hybrid[1]
  • 2008-2010 Sequoia

The lack of confidence in Toyota vehicles is telling. Many Toyota owners have been shocked to learn that the resale value of their cars has plummeted. Those who want to sell their vehicles and buy a safer one, may not find it easy to dispose of their Toyota in the current situation.

The Toyota recall lawyers at the Kahn Law Firm are investigating consumer fraud claims and loss of resale value claims related to defective Toyota vehicles, as well as injury claims related to defective Toyota cars and pickups. If you are a current owner concerned about the low price your car now fetches in the market, you may be eligible for a Toyota consumer fraud claim or a Toyota loss of resale value claim.
