Lufkin Accident Kills One, Leaves Another Injured

As Texas personal injury lawyers, we always find it especially sad when we come across fatal or serious accidents during what is meant to be a joyful Christmas season. Unfortunately, some of our most beloved holidays are also some of the most dangerous days for motorists in Texas. In the most recent such serious accident during the Christmas season, a Lufkin man was killed when his Chevy truck crossed the center line on Highway 103 East, and stuck another car. The driver of the truck was killed, while the driver of the second vehicle was rushed to the hospital with serious injuries.

Angelina County Police are still not sure why the Chevy driver Gene Albritton, veered into the other lane.  However, the Lufkin Police Department has confirmed that Albritton had been arrested on Saturday on charges of driving while intoxicated. He posted bail on Sunday, and this fatal accident occurred on Monday morning. According to KTRE.com, Albritton had at least three DWI’s to his name between 1996 and 1997. He was placed on parole in 2009 until March 2010.  However, it’s too soon to say if alcohol use was a factor in this accident. We will have to wait for toxicology reports to come out to confirm if alcohol use contributed to this tragic crash.

Meanwhile, our thoughts and prayers are with the second driver who was seriously injured in this accident. Thirty- nine-year-old David Sims is recovering at a hospital in Tyler. The East Medical Center has confirmed that he is expected to survive.

As Texas car accident lawyers, we can’t stress this often enough – if you intend to drink during an evening, make sure you are not the one who ends up behind the wheel. Driving while intoxicated can leave you feeling reckless, and with strongly impaired reasoning abilities and slower response times.   A combination of these three factors can be deadly not just for you, but for other motorists around you.
