Graco Recalls 1.2 Million Harmony Highchairs for Fall Hazards-Texas Child Injury Lawyer

It’s been hard for Houston child injury lawyers to keep up with the endless stream of children’s product recalls being announced these days. Over the past four months alone, we have had massive recalls of cribs and strollers, besides smaller recalls of toys, clothing and other defective children’s products.

In the most recent such recall, Graco has announced that 1.2 million Harmony highchairs will be pulled off the market because of the risk of instability. Two screws in the front leg of the highchairs can fall off, causing great risk of a fall. Graco is advising parents to stop using the highchairs immediately, and contact the company for a free repair kit.

This drill has become nauseatingly familiar now. The Graco recall comes barely a month after the company recalled approximately 1.5 million strollers because of the risk of fingertip amputations in little children. In September, McLaren had recalled around 1 million strollers for exactly the same problem. This is not even including the numerous defective criminal crib recalls, especially those involving drop side cribs that have been announced over the past 12 months.

This month Inez Tenenbaum, chief of the Consumer Product Safety Commission assured the American public that her agency would do everything possible to prevent defective products from entering the market, and would hold manufacturers accountable. The CPSC chief had especially harsh words for those manufacturers who indulged in finger-pointing at parents, when their children died from using a defective product. As Houston product liability lawyers, we have been appalled at the manner in which companies calmly blame parents after a death. Tenenbaum made it clear that her agency would name and shame such companies if they indulged in such tactics.
