Attention Moms & Dads! Maclaren Stroller Recall Due to Fingertip Amputations
On Monday, November 9, 2009, Maclaren, a popular, high-end stroller manufacturer announced a recall of about 1 million strollers after the Consumer Product Safety Commission received a dozen reports of children’s fingertips being amputated by the hinge mechanism on the stroller.
The amputation occurred while the stroller is being opened if a child’s finger became caught in the hinge mechanism. Maclaren has reportedly received 15 reports of children placing their fingers in the hinge mechanism, 12 of which resulted in a fingertip amputation.
Maclaren’s recall includes single and double umbrella strollers affecting the following models: Volo, Triumph, Quest Sport, Quest Mod, Techno XT, TechnoXLR, Twin Triumph, Twin Techno, and Easy Traveller. These strollers were sold a Babies R Us, Target and other juvenile product retailers across the United States between 1999 and November 2009 for between $100 and $360.
In a press release, Maclaren officials said: “Safety is our first priority and through this voluntary effort we urge consumers to contact us immediately to obtain the kit which consists of hinge covers designed specifically to fit all Maclaren strollers.”
