Houston Police Bust Prostitution Ring, More Arrests Expected

Houston police arrested a number of people for prostitution sex crimes this month, after a raid at a local club. According to the Houston Police Department, the club was hosting a party that was organized through an escort website, and involved several call girls. Police say the escort site was hard to infiltrate, but they managed to do so after four months of trying. Twelve people who were at the party have been charged, and these include both accused prostitutes and customers.

NHTSA Report: Young Drivers in Texas at High Risk for Accidents

Parents of young teen drivers and auto accident lawyers in Texas will find the results of a new report by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, very disturbing.

According to the report, in 2007, young drivers (those between the age of 15 and 20) accounted for close to 1/5th of all traffic accident fatalities in the country. These drivers made up just 9 percent of the national population in 2007, but accounted for 19 percent of traffic fatalities the same year.  Those rates must be taken as a wakeup call by our law enforcement agencies – they need to focus harder on this vulnerable section of the Texas population.

Some Holiday Driving Advice from Texas DWI Lawyers

The Christmas and New Year holiday season is when we can expect Texas DWI lawyers to be extra busy. In that context, it’s important for motorists and partiers to know that in Harris County, an anti-DWI refusal program is currently underway. What this means is that if a motorist is pulled over on suspicion of drunk driving and refuses the breath test, the police can obtain a warrant from judges who are available almost immediately to sign for a forced blood test.  The no-refusal program will run on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, from now until the 2nd of January 2010.

Texas Product Liability Lawyers Concerned About Dangers from Roman Blinds, Roller Shades

As product liability lawyers representing victims of defective products in Texas, we’reconstantly monitoring federal safety alerts about unsafe products.  We thought that this recall would be one that many parents would be likely to miss. The Consumer Product Safety Commission is drawing attention to a massive recall of window blinds and shades by some of the country’s biggest retailers, because of strangulation hazards.  The agency confirms that at least 8 deaths have been linked to children getting strangulated in blind cords, and there have been at least 16 near-strangulation incidents.

Amanda Knox Conviction Poses Questions for Texas Sexual Assault Lawyers

It was a trial far away from Texas that had sexual assault lawyers here and around the country transfixed, and then, stunned at what we believe, was an unfair verdict. Last week, an Italian court found 22-year-old American student Amanda Knox guilty last of the murder of her roommate Meredith Kercher. Prosecutors alleged that the murder was the result of a sexual assault.

Family of Texas Motorcycle Accident Victim Calls for Ban on Texting While Driving

The family of a motorcycle accident victim in Montgomery County is calling for a ban on texting while driving in the state of Texas. In March, Splendora-resident Douglas Allen Jr. was killed when the motorcycle he was riding, was struck by a car.  The motorist Jonathan Porter, was apparently reading a text message on his cell phone at the time of the crash. Porter didn’t stick around after the accident. He fled on foot, and turned himself in the next day. Allen’s family is now campaigning for a ban on texting while driving.

Attention Moms & Dads! Maclaren Stroller Recall Due to Fingertip Amputations

On Monday, November 9, 2009, Maclaren, a popular, high-end stroller manufacturer announced a recall of about 1 million strollers after the Consumer Product Safety Commission received a dozen reports of children’s fingertips being amputated by the hinge mechanism on the stroller.

The amputation occurred while the stroller is being opened if a child’s finger became caught in the hinge mechanism.  Maclaren has reportedly received 15 reports of children placing their fingers in the hinge mechanism, 12 of which resulted in a fingertip amputation.

Ford Extends Recall on Vehicles with Fire Hazard

A faulty cruise control switch is to blame for the largest recall in auto history.  On Tuesday, October 13, 2009, Ford announced that they will be recalling an additional 4. 5 million vehicles due to this faulty switch manufactured by Texas Instruments which brings the number of recalled vehicles to 16 million for the same problem. The faulty switch can leak hydraulic fluid, overheat, smoke and then burn, and risks causing a fire even when the ignition is turned off, parked and unattended, the NHTSA said.

Do You Need A Lawyer for Your Accident?

Trying to handle your own personal injury case without an attorney is like trying to perform an operation on yourself. Doctors wouldn’t operate on themselves and lawyers wouldn’t represent themselves either.  There is an old adage, “a lawyer who represents himself has a fool for a  client.”

23 Children Injured when Daycare Van Rolls Over

According to the Star-Telegram, on Monday, September 28, 2009, a Kids Clubhouse daycare van carrying twenty children were injured when the van entered an intersection in Grand Prairie, Texas (just outside of Dallas) and was broadsided by an oncoming vehicle.

We are Called to Serve

Lawyers are too often characterized as greedy, dishonest, and faithless. Our society does not trust lawyers and often considers attorneys as a class entirely separate from the rest of society. And perhaps, the legal profession has embraced and promulgated these thoughts in an attempt to validate the notion that attorneys are somehow better than most of society.
